Jackson Howard Shumate was born on February 23, 2012; he was a healthy 6 pounds 8 ounces and 19 inches long. He was perfect in every way with a look that could melt anyone's heart. A few days after he was born, he contracted a virus that required him to be transferred to CHKD.

During his time at the hospital, he was cared for by numerous compassionate, loving, and well trained doctors and nurses. The hospital staff treated Baby Jack as if he was part of their family the moment he arrived. They would read nursery rhyme books, play music, and come in on their day off to see how he was doing. Sometimes they would even stay the night to help give him around the clock treatment. The hospital staff become family and showered the Shumates with love each and every day.  After a strenuous fight, Baby Jack got his angel wings on March 21, 2012. He left too soon, but forever wouldn't have been long enough. The Shumate Family will forever be grateful for the outstanding treatment Jack received at the hospital.

Thank you CHKD!
